Innovative AiF-ZIM Research Project For The Removal Of PFAS From Contaminated Water (FluorSorb) Launched

Heidelberg, Germany, 14 Oct 2024

Excited to announce the official approval of a groundbreaking research project aimed at developing and characterizing a novel absorber for the efficient removal of long- and short-chain per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) from contaminated water.

Approved on 31 July 2024, this project marks the beginning of a promising collaboration between instrAction GmbH, based in Heidelberg, and the Department of Instrumental Analytical Chemistry (IAC) at the University of Duisburg-Essen. The project focuses on the development of a special absorber that is designed to specifically target and remove both long-chain and short-chain PFAS from polluted waters. PFAS are persistent chemicals that are causing increasing environmental and health concerns worldwide, often released into the environment through industrial processes and pose a challenge to conventional cleaning methods.

By combining instrAction’s expertise in polymer modification with the extensive analytical capabilities of IAC, University of Duisburg-Essen, we aim to develop innovative solutions to combat PFAS contamination and ensure their practical application.

This partnership enables us to leverage synergies that advance both fundamental research and industrial application leading to significant progress in the reduction of PFAS contamination. The project is scheduled to run for 27 months and is supported by funding from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).

At instrAction, we are committed to driving technological innovation that addresses today’s environmental challenges, and the FluorSorb project is a vital part of our mission to develop highly efficient solutions for cleaner water.
